Friday night was spent hanging around the house as a family of four, celebrating Coaly's birthday and resting up for our Saturday adventure.
I made my first entirely-from-scratch gluten-free pizza. Kept it easy with pizza sauce & mozzarella cheese as our toppings. Although I got sidetracked & had to feed the pups dinner and this stayed in three minutes too long, so it was a bit more on the well done side. Still delicious, though!
Being in State College this weekend was the best thing possible as it truly allowed us to begin the healing process. We were with friends who had been experiencing the same emotions as us all week and that unification and reminder that we're not alone was beyond reassuring that WE (definitely still) ARE PENN STATE.
I was a bit worried about the atmosphere but that feeling immediately went away upon entering Beaver Stadium. I was overwhelmed by the alumni and their support for our student-athletes. I loved that Coach Bradley walked out AHEAD of the team. I loved that the seniors were CELEBRATED. I loved that the entire team WALKED OUT HAND IN HAND (a band of brothers, if you will) instead of running onto the field. I loved that both Penn State and Nebraska knelt down in the middle of the field for a MOMENT OF SILENCE and A PRAYER before the game. And even though the game didn't end in our favor, it was a victory for all and the start of a great Big Ten rivalry.
This pretty much sums up our night... (excuse the crappy phone pictures!)
After a fun night we decided to stop in Altoona at Shaun's parents' house and crash there. The pups were in good care with our neighbor so we figured why drive three hours tired if we didn't need to? We slept well, caught up in the morning over some tea, and made the drive back to Pittsburgh. We stopped once for breakfast (can we talk about the last time I ate a bagel and cream cheese?!) and made it home by 10 am.
And that, my friends, was our happy little weekend. Bring on an even better week!
