Load the Audis and head to Canmore. Do our best to get a good night's sleep at a club member's condo.
Saturday - THE BIG DAY!
We're up and at 'em early to hit the road by 6:30 am. We have 308 km (191 miles) to cover and 15 hours to do so. We'll stop twice (first at 125 km, then at 210 km) for 20 minutes each time. Weather conditions are forecasting a low of 3 degrees C and high of 16 degrees C with a 40% chance of isolated showers, so layering will be key. We're on our own for food, so we get to eat whatever we can pack in our jerseys and bikes. Oh, and did I mention it's grizzly bear season? Apparently we're guaranteed to see them so we have to carry bear spray and know what to do when we ride by one in a ditch: remove your sunglasses, cycle by very slowly, do not make eye contact, stay in the group and try to shield yourself with a car. Is anyone else nervous just reading that?!
After what I'm sure will be a much-needed night's rest at the Maligne Lodge, we'll do a 65 km (40 miles) ride around Athabasca Falls followed by a 10 km recovery run. We'll also spend lots of (well deserved) time in the hot tub especially considering the forecast is for light rain all day.
Our last day will take us to the Maligne Lake Road Ride for 90 km, or 56 miles. As you'll see below, it's a steep climb followed by a nice descent. We'll load up the bikes and drive back to Edmonton!
