Among my many hobbies which include online shopping, pop-culture obsessing and giving #hashtags to as many written words as possible, I am also a fitness nut. I grew up dancing and entered my first gym in college when I hung up my dancing shoes. I love getting in a good sweat and constantly finding new ways to do it. So I wanted to share with you guys a couple of ways I keep myself motivated to get in the gym and #crushit.
Every good workout needs a great playlist. There is nothing worse than hopping on a cardio machine, ready to go, only to find out that your iPod died… it sucks. So – rule number one – always keep your iPod properly charged!
Past that, I love making new playlists every few weeks to keep things interesting. I am a lover of all types of music, but I stick to fast paced rap, rock (and the occasional teenybopper pop song) at the gym to keep my heart rate up. Here is a sample of what I’ve currently got on rotation.
And now, Pinterest workouts.
My number one goal on Pinterest is usually repining anything from the boards of Nina Garcia or DNKY PR Girl (if you’re in PR and not familiar you need to follow her on Twitter immediately, she’s amazing). I love to stare at pretty clothes and outfits I’m not crafty enough to pull together myself – BUT – Pinterest is also great for new workout ideas! Once you find the right people to follow, you’ll be inundated with some awesome workouts, especially circuit workouts that you can do at home or on the road. Here is one my favorites:
And lastly, using the system.
I was going to title this section ‘Abuse the System’ but then decided that sounds bad. What I mean is that there are so many new student deals out there that we’d all be crazy not to take advantage of them. I love to try out new gyms and activities by taking companies up on their trial period specials. My most favorite yoga studio, CorePower Yoga, offers an unlimited free first week to all new students. Also – it’s pretty easy to get a 3-day trial pass to gyms like Equinox, sometimes you just have to ask. Also, Groupons! I’m sure you’ve all seen about a million of them - Groupon (and other deal sites) can have amazing specials on fitness opportunities.
Even if you don’t end up renewing with a company past that initial trial, it can be really fun to try out a new gym or class. My personal favorite fitness finds? Physique 57, FlyWheel (aka – DeathWheel… in a good way) and yoga.
So those are my tips. I hope you find them helpful! If you have any questions Julie knows where to find me, or you can follow me on Twitter @ashgin116. Until we meet again :)
