For those that know me well, you know I eagerly anticipate my grocery shopping every weekend. That's right. I LOVE GROCERY SHOPPING. I'm not afraid to say it. I've even been known to wake up early on Saturday morning to drive to Market District in excitement. Lame? Maybe. Does it make me happy? Oh yes. And when possible, I hit up my local farmers market (walking distance - woot!) or Whole Foods for some buffalo flank steak.
In my opinion, one key to healthy eating is meal planning. Each weekend, I plan my meals for the week. I even have a handy notepad that sticks to my refrigerator. I also take a list, sorted by section of the store, with me. Otherwise it's too easy to forget something...or worse, get sidetracked. I keep the majority of my shopping to the perimeter of the store: fresh fruits and veggies, seafood and meat, and dairy. I'm making a concerted effort in life not to eat food with preservatives or anything that comes in a box and has sat on a shelf for days/weeks/months...let's face it, a long time. Too long.
Side note: there's a man who competes in the Ironman World Championship every year in Kona. He's in his 60s and looks better than most. His key to life? Only eating food in which you can recognize every ingredient and doing some sort of anaerobic exercise everyday. Well my friends, that man has it right. May he be an inspiration to us all!
Step 1: preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: place two servings of wild salmon on a baking sheet.
Step 4: season each piece with sea salt (just a bit!), black pepper and a good amount of garlic powder.
Step 5: add some lemon juice to each filet.
Step 6: grate some fresh parmigiano-reggiano cheese and cover each filet entirely....this my friend, is the trick!
Post them in the comments section -- I'd love to try them!
